The Paleolithic Era : " The Old Stone Age"
The Paleolithic period was the earliest period of human development and longest of mankind's history. This period saw the evolution of the human species from an apelike creature. The development was exceedingly slow and continued through the successive divisions of the period, the Lower, Middle, and Upper Paleolithic era. The Homo sapiens emerged in east Africa approximately 100,000 to 400,000 years ago. They migrated from Africa to Eurasia, Australia, and the Americas. Early humans were hunters and gatherers whose survival depended on the availability of wild plants and animals. The Paleolithic man was nomadic because they migrated place to place to find food, water, and shelter. The lack of food and the constant moving meant populations tended to be small. They invented the first tools which included simple weapons. They also discovered fire ; this meant they could cook their food and have warmth when it was cold. The Paleolithics lived in clans and developed cave art for their communication.
